Stop. Think. Thank.

God does not speak in an audible voice to me – but sometimes there is no mistake in what He is trying to say.  That’s what happened as I began walking the track this morning at the gym.  My mind was preoccupied with my ‘to do’ list for the day: phone calls I had to make, meetings I needed to schedule (and reschedule due to the weather), emails I needed to respond to, preparations for church this Sunday – typical things that fill my days as an Executive Pastor.  Looking out the window at the 10+ inches of snow that had fallen over the past 2 days (and wishing I was in the middle of summer at the lake), it was as if God said “Stop.  Can you just take a few moments in your rushed and busy and never satisfied life to think about all the things I have blessed you with?”   When I feel a prompting that strongly, I try to act on it – so here goes…..

I am thankful for the health to be able to work out at the community center, freedom to organize my days the way I want to, an awesome family who loves God and loves me, being a Grandma, parents who are still living and in good health, almost 35 years of a great marriage, a warm house during these cold winter days, cars that will get me to the places I need to go, money to put gas in my car, grocery stores and restaurants with more choices that I could ever need, wonderful lifelong friends, my church, the privilege I have to serve God and help people every day and most of all the personal relationship I have had with Jesus for over 50 years.

What are you thankful for?
