Leadership Junkie

I admit it – I am a leadership junkie! Whenever I have a moment to sit down with a book, I gravitate toward a book about leadership. I love learning about how to better lead others. Some might argue that they aren’t leaders, but the truth is we are ALL leading someone because leadership is influence. Lately I have found the best time for me to read is when I’m at the gym on the treadmill. John Maxwell is one of my favorites. Here are some insights from him:

“Growth equals change. If you want to get better, you have to keep changing and improving.”

“The true measure of leadership is influence. True leadership cannot be awarded, appointed, or assigned. It comes only from influence and it must be earned. The proof of leadership is found in the followers. Are people following you, or are you only taking a walk?”

“Effective leaders who reach their potential spend more time focusing on what they do well than on what they do wrong.”

“The only true measure of success is the ratio between what we might have been and what we have become.”

So here are the questions I ask myself. Am I not only reading about leadership, but am I changing and improving? Do I have people following me and am I making them feel valuable? Do I spend more time focusing on my strengths or my weaknesses? Am I constantly asking God to help me be all He wants me to be? How about you?
