I am not a fan of exercise! Give me a raft and I will float on the lake for hours; or attach a parachute to my back and I will jump out of a plane, but regular exercise at a gym? No thanks! That was until I discovered Zumba!
For the past few weeks, I have actually looked forward to exercising at the suggestion of a friend who said I would love exercising in a whole new way. I was intrigued by the name and did some research on how Zumba got started.
One day, celebrity fitness trainer, “Beto” Perez from Cali, Colombia, walked into his aerobics class and realized he had forgotten his aerobics music. Thinking quickly, he grabbed whatever tapes he had in his backpack. Beto’s tapes were comprised of songs he loved, the traditional Latin salsa and merengue music he listened to all his life. But it was a challenge to improvise a whole class on the spot using non-traditional aerobics music. Beto rose to the challenge and from this last-minute improvisation Zumba was born.
So there you have it! The history of Zumba…just in case you’ve been wondering!
