Happy Birthday

This is the letter I wrote to Lincoln 2 years ago today – the day he was born!

Dear Lincoln,

We just arrived at the hospital room. Your Mom has been awake all night with contractions. They just began the drops of potosin to induce labor. You are two weeks overdue today! Grandma Jonalin, Aunt Jamie and Aunt Jill are here with you and then there’s me, Grandma K. We are so excited to meet you. I can’t tell you how excited we were as we walked past the baby nursery last night here at the hospital. All those little babies were so cute and we can’t wait to see you for the very first time!

It’s been several hours and Grandma Jonalin continues to encourage your Mom to ‘relax, let your stomach sink into the mattress, think calming soothing thoughts.’ ☺ It is 1:15 pm. The epidearal has made the contractions more bearable. We all began to make guesses as to what your size and weight will be. The doctor is here. He says you will be here by 7 tonight. Even though you aren’t here yet, you are already one very loved little boy.
You were born at 3:28 pm. Mommy pushed for about 30 minutes. Your little hands were strong and gripped the sides of the baby warmer. We asked you for a big smile and you let out a huge cry! We got it on film.

And so we welcomed you into the world 2 years ago today! What a gift you have been! Your big blue eyes and big smile have captured our hearts! The Bible talks about the fact that grandchildren are a blessing from the Lord. How true that is – Lincoln, we love you so much and thank God for you every day. I pray for you every day that you will grow up loving and serving Jesus with all of your heart. I know He has big plans for you!
