Good Medicine for Leaders

Studies show that leaders who lead with positive emotions have workgroups with a more positive mood, enhanced job satisfaction, greater engagement and improved performance. In fact one study at Mayo Clinic revealed that positive emotions could lengthen one’s life span by 10 years. Optimism early in life also predicted good health later in life. Interestingly enough, studies also reveal that praise and positive reinforcement are rare in most families and in most workplaces. In fact, 68% of employees who were surveyed received no recognition within the past year. Imagine the impact we could have on others if we purposed to engage people through a positive outlook on life! Proverbs 17:22 says, “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” Try enjoying life a little more – it is sure to make you feel better!

What would happen if those of us in leadership who are Christ followers would have joyful hearts?
